Xena meets her match..

So after half a work out where I was striding around feelin like this girl..headphones on .. in the Zone baby!

Yea intensity is what "coach" ordered... Intensity it was! HOOAAH!

then .... I met me new nemesis.. it's called a Pull-Up... ! HA!

There was NO UP thank you very much !
I don't know whether to call it "how to embarrass yourself in one easy lesson" or "horrible painful death".. OK so I exaggerate juuuust a little! ;P
I have to say honestly I've never really seriously tried to do one of these damn things simply because I figure I have too much stupid body weight to lift up.. & besides there's Always LOTS of other exercises to do instead! ~lol~
But now I'm gonna have to "buck up" & figure out how to work into doing at least 1 of them!
Bear in mind my gym is by no means a "girly Gym" & wouldn't think of having anything as fancy as one of those machines that help take up part of your body weight...Oh No...you're on your OWN sister!
So as instructed by 'coach' ...( who by this time I'm quietly cursing under my breath! )
I dragged a flat bench over in my best Xena style swagger... yea right eh? -
there is no way to look clever moving one of those things!
Any who bench in place I proceeded to perch myself on it & try to lift myself up using as little help from the one foot I was allowing myself to keep on the bench...
even then doing a few of these things are HARD!!
So for the time being ... I think the score is 1 zilch in favour of the stupid pull up...

But .. give me time.. I'm stubborn!

Your post gave me confirmation that I'm a hopeless fitness geek, cuz I had tears in my eyes as I read it! Way to flippin' go that you are stepping outside your comfort zone and working towards something so very very cool.

Keep in mind that pull-ups feel hard cuz they ARE hard. And it's all about progress. And working the negative part of the move (jump to the top, the lower slowly) will give you amazing results.

You impress, girl!

My success in achieving my first pull up...I put a chocolate chip cookie up there and could only have it upon successful completion of one pull up. Amazing how that cookiecan motivate me,lol.
Good luck and I bet you'll get there soon.

Hey girl, love the new 'tude. You are too funny!Since I am gym-less now I dont get to practice pullups anymore but one day I do want to. I saw this chick doing a bunch one time and after realizing I was staring with my mouth open for a sec I went up and asked her how she did them. She said it was about 75% mental, you just have to believe you can do it once you have the strength. You can totally do it!!!

I HATE pullups! I always have to use the assisted, and still feel like a weakling.

I can't do those either. I can do the close grip one, but not where you have your arms out to the side. Not sure if I will ever be able to do it.

Horrible painful death, yes I think so. I hate them because they have always been so darn hard.
I have a third grade girl that holds the record of 15. It amazes me every time.

I can't do one either without the assisted machine. When I used to climb at an indoor climbing gym all the time, they have all sorts of evil pull-up boards, which involve much smaller and smaller holds for hands down to fingertips and what they always taught there was to hang from them, like you just did it, biceps flexed, and slowly lower yourself in reverse, and you'll slowly build up to being able to do one correctly.

Well girl...I can't get a pull-up out of me either!! Guess I should make that one of my goals? Maybe if you wore the Zena wig you could do it?? Have super week..hugs to you-Dede
